Visiting southern Morocco without visiting a souk is like going to the seaside without swimming. Souks aren't just markets—they're vibrant, colorful places full of aromas, encounters, finds, and bargains. In and around Taghazout, three souks are worth a visit—each with its own atmosphere, secrets, and great deals.

🌿 1. The Souk of Taghazout (Tuesday) – Local Essentials

This small food market is held every Tuesday morning , at the very top of the village, near the main parking lot. There are no inflated prices here – just fresh, local, and truly affordable produce .

🥬 Tip: Perfect for shopping if you're staying for several days!

📍 Location: top of Taghazout, next to the parking lot

🕓 When: Tuesday

Fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs... You'll find everything you need to cook like a local, at unbeatable prices.

👕 2. The Souk of Anza (Wednesday) – Second Hand & Food

Twenty minutes south of Taghazout, the Anza souk is a large, popular market, open every Wednesday . Less touristy, it is full of second-hand clothes, shoes, crockery, tools, and various other items at very low prices.

This is the ideal place for:

  • Find a vintage jacket for a few dirhams

  • Buy olives, dried fruits, vegetables, plants, fruits, etc.

  • Immerse yourself in the 100% local atmosphere

💬 Tip: Ask for the price per kilo“BshHal kilo adi?” while pointing at the requested item “how much is that?”

❗ Prices are generally fixed, no need to negotiate

🚖 Access: shared taxi (economical) or private taxi (faster)

If you're curious, if you like to explore, or if you want to experience everyday Morocco, this is a must-see.

There is also the souk of Aourir on the same day , more classic and larger than Taghazout.

🕌 3. The Grand Souk of Agadir (Every day except Monday) – The World in One Place

Agadir's Souk El Had is one of the largest markets in North Africa. It's a world apart: hundreds of stalls , arranged by neighborhood (spices, carpets, crafts, fruit, clothing, electronics, etc.).

Unlike Marrakech, here the atmosphere is calmer, more fluid, and very secure , thanks to a strong police presence.

You can buy there:

  • Souvenirs: carpets, ceramics, handicrafts

  • Local products: argan oil, dates, saffron

  • Everyday items at great prices

🛍️ Tip: Come with a short list… or just go with the flow!

🕓 Closed on Mondays

🚖 Accessible by private taxi or shared grand taxi

🧭 Tips Before You Embark on the Adventure:

  • Bring cash (small bills)

  • Wear comfortable shoes

  • Learn a few words in Darija (Moroccan Arabic) – the vendors love it when you make the effort

  • Coming soon: a special article to learn numbers and expressions useful in the souk!
